My kids actually started sorting our kitchen trash on their own after a week of looking at this poster, which surprised me. The images are clear enough for a three-year-old to understand what goes where.

The poster layout makes it easy for my kids to point out which bin each item goes in, and they’ve started correcting me at home. Seeing them get excited about sorting trash into recycling is a win for us.

My three-year-old is actually stopping to look at the different bins on the poster instead of just tossing everything in the trash. The simple labels make it easy for him to point and ask questions about paper versus plastic. A really solid way to start those conversations early.
