My students finally grasp place value after using the heavy-duty chart with the straws to group tens and ones. The double-sided cards make it easy to switch between counting activities.

The 200 straws are a nice touch—my first-grader can actually see the ones, tens, and hundreds stacking up instead of just reading about it. We've used it every night this week for homework, and the heavy-duty chart holds up way better than the flimsy one we had before.
