Took these on a hiking trip through some pretty dense forest, and the 22 channels made it easy to find a clear one away from other groups. The call alert is loud enough to hear over a rushing stream, which surprised me.

We use these camping and the range has been solid, even through some light tree cover. The call alert feature is handy for getting the kids' attention when they wander off. Only wish the battery life was a bit longer on a single charge.

The 22 channels are more than enough for our family hikes, and the range in the open park was impressive. My only small gripe is the call alert is a bit loud even on the lowest setting.
