The lid is a nice bonus for keeping the sand clean between sessions. My son traces letters much more carefully now that he can see the contrast so clearly against the dark bottom.

The dark blue bottom really makes each traced letter pop, which has helped my daughter focus more. I love that the lid keeps the sand contained for easy storage between sessions. Even the fine grain sand feels nice and smooth under her fingers.
